INTRO TO PUMPFOIL
Your first step into pump foiling. This session is all about nailing the fundamentals with clear, hands-on coaching and loads of water time.
You’ll learn:
- Safe dismounting techniques
- How to get on and off the board confidently
- Correct feet and body position
- Controlled glides on the foil
IMPROVE YOUR PUMPFOIL
Already got your first glides? This session focuses on refining technique and building efficiency
You’ll work on:
- Longer, more controlled glides
- Pumping technique
- Better balance and foil control
DOCK START
Ready to level up? Learn how to dock start so you can self-launch confidently and ride independently.
What you’ll learn:
- Safe and effective dock start technique
- Board and foil positioning

Pumpfoil Lessons – Frequently Asked Questions

Learning to pumpfoil varies by person, but most riders start feeling confident after 3–4 lessons. Being independent and linking multiple glides often takes longer — commonly 30+ hours of practice.

No — you don’t need to be strong or super fit to start pumpfoiling. Success comes from technique and balance.

No need to bring anything, but you’re welcome to bring:
- Your own surf or watersports wetsuit
- A towel for the showers
- Any necessary medical items (e.g., inhaler, EpiPen, glucose)
- Snacks for energy on the water

Yes! You can book lessons for two people in the same session, making pumpfoiling a great activity to enjoy with a friend.

Pumpfoil works best in light wind conditions (ideally below ~10 knots), which help the water stay smooth for gliding and pumping.

You can book lessons at your own pace — we’re open 7 days a week (weather permitting). Booking sessions closer together helps you progress quicker, but it’s up to you.

At West Kirby Marine Lake you’ll find:
- Toilets
- Changing areas
- Hot showers (During Wirral Watersports Centre open hours)
all included with your lesson for a comfortable experience.

Our booking policy is flexible for weather changes, especially strong winds. If Northern Kites cancels due to unsafe conditions, your lesson can be rescheduled.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before the lesson or don’t show up, no refund or reschedule is offered. Lessons are valid for 1 year from booking. -
Once you’ve completed your lessons, you’re invited to join our active pumpfoil community — including sessions out on the water and social meet-ups around West Kirby and Wallasey Beach.

Absolutely — our instructors will help teach you about the gear during your lessons, and we have a wide range of new and used pumpfoil equipment available to buy in our shop. Students often receive special discounts on gear.
